Sacramento Solar Pool Heating Company

Is Thermal Solar Pool Heating Right for You?
Do you you and your family enjoy swimming in a warmer pool?  Do you like the idea of being able to use your pool for several weeks before and after the weather is warm enough to heat the pool on it's own?  Do you have a pool that sits in the shade most of the day?  Would you rather use natural thermal heat from the sun to heat your pool than spend hundreds a month on heating the pool with natural gas or electricity?  If you answered yes to any of these questions then you should consider having a thermal solar pool heater installed.

Pool heaters run off of your pool's regular circulation pump.  Most people are running their pool pumps 8+ hours per day.  By simply re-routing that flow of water up onto the roof to get warm before going back into the pool, you can raise the temperature of your pool several degrees per day.  After a few days in a row you can turn an unfavorable pool temperature into an enjoyable one with little to no extra energy cost or stress on your existing system.

Thermal Solar Pool Heater in Sacramento

How does a solar pool heater work?
Water from your pool is continuously pumped from the pool through the filter and back into the pool most of the day.  When the outdoor temperature is warmer than the water in the pool, water is diverted up onto panels on the roof after filtration.  The panels on the roof are made of hundreds of small black tubes that get hot in the sun and distribute the water in a large flat sheet for maximum thermal uptake.  This water flows through the tiny tubes and back into the pool.  It is possible for water temperatures to come out of the system at temperatures over 100 degrees Fahrenheit.  Some people get a bit worried when they hear how hot the water can get, but that water is immediately diluted with cool water in the pool and there is no chance of burning a person near the inlet.  Throughout a day, about 1/3 to 1/2 the water in the pool could be cycled thought he pool heater.  When it is sunny out, but not hot enough to keep the pool temperature comfortable, your solar pool heater will keep your pool more enjoyable.

Solar Pool Heater Installation

In order to add a thermal heater to your pool first your roof must be verified to be in good condition.  From there the design of the system is laid out to maximize afternoon sun exposure and to fit the contours and obstacles of your roof.  ABS pipe is used to re-route water form your pool pump equipment to your house.  Depending on the location of your pool equipment, pipe may be run underground to the house.  From there up onto the roof for heating and from there, back into the pool.

A valve is installed to control diversion of water up onto the roof or from the pump directly back into the pool.  If your pool does not have a controller we recommend installing one so you can set the temperature ranges for the outside air and the pool water to automatically control when water is diverted into the solar system.  You may want to set a limit on how hot the pool gets during certain times of the year as overheating the pool can cause problems with the chemical balance and effectiveness of chlorine in your pool.  You will also want to be able to reduce stain on your pump by only running the solar heat system when it is effective to do so vs all the time.
